Jaclyn Smith, Director of Sales at Armored Things on Advice for Early Stage Sales Teams 21 October 2019 / Team As my two year anniversary for Armored Things rapidly approaches, I thought I would take a moment to share the insights I’ve learned while serving as the Director of Sales at Armored Things. Keep an Open MindEvery day is going to have its own set of unique challenges and opportunities, so try to view every day as a learning opportunity. The more you view everything as a learning experience, the more you’ll walk away with in the end. In the words of Dr. Seuss, “The more that you learn, the more places you’ll go.” Take InitiativeGet creative and bring original ideas to the table, even if it's not specifically asked of you. Some of the best opportunities are created when you’re the one taking the initiative. Stay ProactiveDon't be afraid to pivot and try to use your time wisely if something's not working. If you decide to switch something up, make a point to share your decision and findings with your team. In a startup, everyone is constantly learning from one another and while it might feel like there's a ton of transparency in a startup, collaboration is still something that needs to be constantly reinforced and emphasized. Seek out Diverse PerspectivesCollaborating with different departments within Armored Things have helped me sharpen my skill set as a sales person. By developing closer relationships with the marketing, engineering, and leadership team, I’ve been able to connect with customers in unexpected ways that I couldn’t have if I was laser focused on sales.
